Summer Mindfulness Class

Starting on August 9, 2012 a four week Introduction to Mindfulness and Loving-Kindness Meditation class will be offered every Thursday evening from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Unity - A Positive Path for Spiritual Living 1243 Delaware Avenue Buffalo, NY 14209. For more information about Unity please visit their website at: http://www.unitybuffalo.org

This class was designed for people new to mindfulness meditation. Therefore, people who already have an established meditation practice should not register. The class will meet once a week for 1.5 hours and will consist of short lectures, guided meditations, handouts, and question and answer periods.

Mindfulness, also called Vipassana or Insight Meditation, is the cultivation of a clear seeing non-judgmental awareness of the mind-body. Loving-Kindness, also called Metta Meditation, is the cultivation of qualities of the heart such as love, compassion, and joy. These meditative techniques are drawn from the original teachings of the Buddha but are universal and non-sectarian. Benefits range from a simple relaxation technique to a universal path of wisdom and compassion.

The class is being offered by the not-for-profit organization Buffalo Mindfulness Community. In the spirit of dana (a Pali word for generosity that goes back to the time of the Buddha) the class will be offered free of charge but donations will be gladly accepted.

Registration for the class is required. To register and or to ask questions about the four week class please e-mail: info@buffalodharma.org. Alternatively you can call 716-626-9016 ext. 205 to sign up for the class and or to ask questions.
