Location: North Presbyterian Church, 300 N. Forest Rd., Williamsville, NY 14221
The course is appropriate for people new to mindfulness as well as those who have taken the Introduction to Mindfulness course.
The course will last for 4 weeks, meeting once a week for 1.5 hours and will consist of short lectures, guided meditations, handouts, and question and answer periods.
The classes are progressive with each class building on meditations from the previous class. You will find the most benefit and understanding by attending all 4 classes. Because this is an experiential class we will be starting each class with a guided meditation. Therefore, we will be unable to accommodate late entries.
Mindfulness naturally leads to levels of calm/serenity (samatha) and or insight (vipassana). The Joy of Mindfulness (orginally called Deepening of Mindfulness) course will be focusing on samatha meditation. Based on the teachings of early Buddhism, samatha meditation leads to jhana (states of mental absorption, joy, happiness and bliss) and samadhi (unification of mind). These meditative techniques are drawn from the original teachings of the Buddha as preserved in the Pāli Canon of the Theravadan Buddhist tradition but are universal and non-sectarian.
When combined with other Path Factors, samatha and vipassana culminates in the sure heart's release - liberation!
We sincerely wish you all the best as you embark on your mindfulness practice for your own happiness, for the happiness of those around you, and even for the whole wide world!
